Police are investigating a suspicious death in southern Auckland after a person was shot.

Inspector Daniel Meade said the incident was reported to police around 9 p.m.

“An investigation is underway after a suspicious death in a residential building on Princess St East, Ōtāhuhu tonight.”

The victim sustained a gunshot wound and died on the spot, he said.

Cordons and stage guards would remain in place overnight, he said.

On Facebook, residents nearby reported hearing “drunk on sirens and a helicopter” and “officers flying down the road.”

“Princes Street East, officers have blocked the road … Ambos, a lot is happening,” wrote one resident.
