Job Description

Great Basin College (GBC) is seeking
highly qualified individuals for a full-time, tenure-track political science instructor position based the main campus in Elko, Nevada. The
position begins August 1, 2022. The individual hired for this position will be primarily responsible for teaching multiple sections of PSC
101, Introduction to American Politics, a course that includes content that meets mandated Nevada State and United States Constitution
information. This position also involves teaching upper-division courses in political science, a core discipline in the Bachelor of Arts in
Social Science online degree program. The qualified candidate will have the ability to develop and teach upper-division courses related to
national and global political issues and processes to further educate BA students about the interconnectivity of modern political systems
and issues (i.e., climate change, hegemony, conflict, refugees, etc.). This position reports to the Dean of Arts and Science.

Online
and interactive delivery are crucial components of this position. Great Basin College has a mission to serve the higher education needs of
rural Nevada, and as such, teaching requires extensive use of distance education technology and occasional travel in our extensive service
area. Distance delivery of courses will be with interactive video classes to multiple sites, online, and with evolving technologies.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in political science, or a closely related field is required; a
    Ph.D. is preferred. A specialty in global political issues is desirable. Degree must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher
    education.

  • Experience teaching college-level political science is required.

  • The ability to effectively teach
    established classes covering the United States and Nevada Constitutions is essential.

  • Experience in teaching with distance
    education methods, particularly online delivery, and learning platforms such as Canvas or a similar program is highly
    desired.

  • Commitment to the college mission is essential.

  • A student-centered teaching philosophy that
    encompasses design, delivery, and assessment.

  • An understanding of the nature of multidisciplinary Bachelor’s program and its
    goals is desirable.

  • A student-centered approach to teaching and an understanding of diverse learning styles is
    essential.

  • Competency in the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally is essential.

Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will be primarily responsible for teaching all political science courses needed
and/or required by the GBC Social Sciences Department to meet the needs of the students and programs. For candidates with an appropriate
background, opportunities to teach and develop political sciences or social science courses may be included. Further responsibilities
include:

  • Develop and teach political science courses at all levels using the Canvas online format as the primary delivery
    method.

  • Develop and teach upper-division political science courses related to national and/or global issues and processes to
    meet the needs of the Bachelor of Arts in Social Science.

  • Perform all duties as required of all full-time GBC faculty (full
    workload of 15 units per semester, advising, committee work, maintain office hours, etc.).

  • Help coordinate and mentor
    instruction by GBC part-time faculty.

  • Work as a team member with a genuine spirit of cooperation, collaboration, and
    flexibility in a college setting,

  • Advise and recruit students.

  • Participate in professional development
    activities.

  • Handle administrative duties related to teaching and program development including strategic planning and
    assessment.

  • Travel by car throughout the GBC service area as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation as per the
    Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  • Participate in the social and cultural development of the college and
    community.

  • Participate in college and system-wide committees as appropriate.

  • Other duties as
    assigned.

GBC is NOT able to support Visa applications for employment at the college. Applicants must already be

Salary and Benefits:

Annual salary range is $46,000 -
$72,000 commensurate with experience and education.

Nevada System of Higher Education benefits package includes a 401(a) defined
contribution retirement plan with employees contributing 15.50 % and a matching 15.50% from the employer, medical/dental/vision plan,
benefit time, 11 paid holidays, and tuition waiver at Nevada System of Higher Education colleges for the employee and family. There is no
state income tax in Nevada.

evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed
equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited
college or university. Any expense related to the evaluation will be the responsibility of the candidate.

Newly hired faculty must
assure that their official transcripts are sent by the degree granting institution(s) to Great Basin College Human Resources Office within
30 days from the effective date of employment. Regionally accredited institutions must have awarded academic degrees.

An
