Job Description

The S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse
University invites applications for a full-time Professor of Practice in the Television, Radio and Film (TRF) department to start August 22,
2022.

Candidates should have significant professional experience as a leader in one or more of the following entertainment
business areas:

  • strategic planning
  • business operations
  • business development/strategic partnerships
  • distribution/acquisitions in domestic and/or international markets
  • content licensing/financing
  • immersive media
  • talent management

Top applicants are cutting-edge thought leaders and trendsetters disrupting old-media models and serving in
leadership roles at companies such as streaming media services, networks, studios, talent agencies and major production companies.

Applicants should also have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to work and collaborate effectively with diverse groups
of students, colleagues and community members.

    willingness to perform a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students, Newhouse

  • Strong teamwork and team building skills, as the strength of
    the Newhouse School lies in the interconnection of faculty members. This Professor of Practice will work with existing members of the
    entertainment business faculty in the TRF department, as well as faculty in related fields outside the department.

Responsibilities

This faculty member will teach six classes in an academic year. Course content will be based on the
professor’s areas of expertise and might include introductory and intermediate entertainment business courses, the department’s
entertainment business Capstone course or other topics that reflect evolving and emerging media business trends. This hire will teach both
undergraduate and graduate students, and be engaged in departmental, school and university service duties.

The faculty member
will be expected to maintain and demonstrate connectivity to the entertainment business. This should include:

  • Developing
    initiatives and building relationships with leading entertainment professionals and organizations, including student-focused engagement
    leading to student internships and job opportunities.
  • Apprising department colleagues of industry business trends and evolving
    practices on a regular basis.
  • Initiating and participating in collaborations between faculty members, departments and schools
    throughout Newhouse, its satellite campuses in New York City and Los Angeles, and the university, including Syracuse Abroad.
  • Contribute to industry partnerships connected to the SULA, Newhouse in NYC and American High satellite programs.
  • Promote and
    strengthen the school’s reputation throughout the entertainment industry.

About the Television, Radio and Film (TRF) Department
Established in 1934, the TRF program is regarded as one of
the best of its kind in the nation. The department’s 18 full-time faculty members, complemented by a specialized adjunct force, prepare
future leaders in the television, radio, film and interactive media industries by introducing students to practices and systems of
production, distribution and exhibition and their economic, political and social impact on the world.

The TRF major is the
largest and most versatile in the Newhouse School, with 500 undergraduates and 40 master’s students. The major consists of a mix of core
requirements and an extensive array of elective coursework, empowering students to customize their programs of study. Majors also study
abroad-in over 100 programs in 60 countries-and participate in semester-long industry immersions in our New York City and Los Angeles
professional study centers. Students in the program earn national recognition, with their creative work accepted to film festivals and the
student Emmys and Telly awards.

Alumni pursue a wide variety of careers that include work as major market (mainly New York and
Los Angeles) producers, directors, writers, designers, editors, executives, media educators, agents and attorneys. They are found in
numerous leadership positions and often return to campus to share their knowledge.
