You may remember during the dark days of the pandemic when good friends Victory and Carola warmed the hearts of fans around the world who played tennis in a tag rally in southern Italy that went viral. Two young players who showed their spirit to live in the moment and pursue their passion despite all the pain of the pandemic, touched the hearts of people all over the world – and made Federer surprise the girls and beat them on their roof terrace in July of 2020.

The Swiss Maestro was so impressed with the pair he promised to help them realize yet another tennis dream.

Recently, Federer and Nadal made that dream come true in partnership with Barilla, Federer’s longtime sponsor, to send the girls to the Rafa Nadal Academy in his native Mallorca for a week – long training camp.

“Surprises are not over yet,” Federer says of the approximately 35-second mark in the video below. “I happen to know a really good summer camp that would be perfect for you two girls.

“I’ve talked to Rafa Nadal Academy and Barilla and I would like to send you there. So why not start packing? Enjoy it!”

“It was almost like a movie – it didn’t really work,” Vittoria said. “We already had this beautiful surprise: A dream of hitting balls with Federer and spending the day with him. Then even a week at the Rafa Nadal Academy at Movistar.”

The girls came to meet Rafa and had such a blast that they both talked about wanting to extend their stay.

In July 2020, Federer traveled to Liguria, Italy to surprise the bubbling protagonists of the videos as they filmed a video about their exploits.

Here is a reminder of the charming encounter.

The sheer moment of warmth and camaraderie brought three tennis players (one with a few more big titles than the other two) together to celebrate their unconditional love of the game as a form of therapy and a passion for life.

Tennis can also be cathartic, festive and unifying force.
