San Jose: Cyclist killed in collision

SAN JOSE – Just five days into the new year, another person has been killed in a collision in San Jose.

The collision, which involved a vehicle and a cyclist, was reported around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday near Queens Lane and Old Bayshore Highway, the San Jose Police Department said in a social media post.

The cyclist was taken to an area hospital, where they were declared dead, police said.

No other information was immediately available.

The death marked the city’s second fatal road accident in the new year. Sunday night, a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run near South White Road and East Hills Drive.

In 2021, the city registered 60 traffic fatalities, corresponding to a peak of two decades, which also reached in 2019 and 2015. Last year, the police investigated 14 fatalities on the roads and arrested at least five people.

Police asked people to avoid the area for Wednesday night’s collision while conducting an investigation.
