Sara Evans filed for divorce from Jay Barker before allegedly trying to run her over

Country music singer Sara Evans filed for divorce from former Alabama quarterback Jay Barker months before he was arrested Saturday for a crime of domestic violence.

Barker, 49, was booked into a Nashville County jail early Saturday morning, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office website. He was charged with aggravated assault with a lethal weapon and put on a $ 10,000 bail with a 12-hour detention because it was a case of domestic violence. He was released Saturday night after providing bail.

According to court records obtained by Scoop Nashville, Evans filed a divorce complaint on August 23, 2021, citing incompatible inconsistencies and inappropriate marital behavior.

As Evans and another person drove into the driveway of a nearby home, Barker allegedly backed his vehicle “at high speed and tried to hit them but missed,” according to the arrest warrant.

The car’s passengers and witnesses told police that Barker “deliberately” tried to hit them with the car, Tennessean reported.

The couple has been married for 12 years, though Barker has lived in Homewood, Alabama, for the past three months, court records show. They have no children together.
