It’s time for Sex Bob-Omb to play again. According to THR, Netflix and UCP are developing an anime series adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s classic graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim.
Bryan Lee O’Malley will write and produce it Scott Pilgrim anime series with BenDavid Grabinski. Netflix has not yet given the project a serial order, but if it goes ahead, O’Malley and Grabinski will also act as co-showrunners. “Partly action fantasy, partly romantic comedy, Scott Pilgrim is centered around the titular slacker who lives in Toronto and in a garage band called Sex Bob-Omb with his friends,”Reads THR’s description. “His life is turned upside down when he meets Ramona Flowers, an American girl who is recently single. But before their love can flourish, Pilgrim is challenged by the seven previous relationships of his love and must defeat them in an exaggerated way.“Science SARU will provide the animation for the series, where the company’s Eunyoung Choi acts as producer and Abel Gongora as director.
Scott Pilgrim was previously brought to life by Edgar Wright over ten years ago, who also happened to be involved in the anime series as an executive producer. Scott Pilgrim Vs. World with Michael Cera as Scott with Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona. Kieran Culkin, Alison Pill, Anna Kendrick, Jason Schwartzman, Brandon Routh and Chris Evans also starred in the film. Despite receiving very positive reviews, Scott Pilgrim Vs. World was a box office bomb at the time of release, but it has garnered a passionate cult following over the years. The film was even re-released in theaters last year to celebrate its tenth anniversary.
