Senior Systems Administrator – Computer Science (CPS)

The Senior Systems Administrator – Computer Science (CPS) position is an exciting opportunity to join the College of Arts and
Sciences’ IT team. While this position reports to the IT Director for the College and is involved in various projects, its primary
responsibility is to directly support the academics and research of the Department of Computer Science. This position will have a dedicated
office located near to the Department of Computer Science in the brand-new, state-of-the-art Jessie S. Hathcock Hall.

Interest and
enrollment in the Department of Computer Science has exploded in the past few years, and the department now offers a Doctor of Philosophy in
Computer Science. Our Computer Science faculty recently have been awarded a number of prestigious grants. This position is responsible for
developing, implementing, and supporting processes for new and exciting technologies critical to the success of Computer Science, including
virtual and mixed reality, malware research, cyber security, and artificial intelligence. This position works closely with the Computer
Science faculty and requires the ability to quickly learn the fundamentals of new and upcoming technologies. Qualified candidates will be
able to read, write, and debug programs written in programming languages such as Python, C++, and Java. This position also requires the
ability to support various flavors of Windows, Linux, and macOS and software applications in classrooms, computer labs, research labs, and
faculty/staff offices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two
    years’ experience in software development team role or two years in IT customer support services
  • Proven ability to learn new
    concepts quickly
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred
qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science or a related technical
  • Two years’ experience programming (e.g. Python, C/C++, Java) and scripting (e.g. AppleScript, PowerShell, shell
    scripts) in software development team roleT
  • Two years’ experience provisioning and administering Windows, Linux, and/or macOS
    workstations and servers
  • Two years in IT customer support services
  • Five years relevant professional experience
  • Experience troubleshooting first level network connectivity, printing, and hardware issues
  • Experience in higher education
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Successful experience engaging with people from diverse
  • Demonstrated and successful experience working with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of and
    sensitivity to a Catholic and Marianist work environment
