Seventeen talk about love, growth and new mini-album ‘Attacca’

As SEVENTEEN prepares to release their ninth mini-album Attack, which is a calming confident energy among the highly respected group. Prior to the media showcase event, 11 of the group’s 13 members took the stage and did everything in black – which gave a very serious behavior to show their artistic direction with this new era. Before knowing its contents, the highly anticipated release already managed to sell over 1.4 million pre-order units in one day, surpassing their previous record of 1.3 million just months ago through their eighth mini-album Your choice.

With all the signs that the potential success of SEVENTEEN (SVT) is immense, we are beginning to witness a revolution in their musical tendencies. The title track “Rock with You” sets the tone for the mini-album by dropping their self-described “pop-punk” song to explore the various trends of the early 00’s (with Joshua quoting Avril Lavigne as an early pop -punk icon) but to the extent of their own SVT style.

The music video for “Rock with You” (which debuted in the showcase) gave us two different visual concepts for the group. One places the group on a roof terrace with a pastel sky background performing the optimistic track — the other, a neon-lit room with the group in a full-leather wardrobe. The different relationships between these images are another reflection of the pop-rock coalescence of the song, making their comeback a love letter into a fandom that deeply respects their curation of music. When the song ends up finding an unshakable consistency, it’s clear that “Rock with You” is another solid SVT song you can enjoy with every listen.

As for their new release, Attack continues the group’s concept message ‘Power of Love’, created in Your choice, to dissect various subsequent views on a universal feeling. The group explains that “dynamic” and “powerful” love play a big role in their own DNA as SVT, but also in this specific work – proving to be an important aspect of this new, updated SVT.

Woozi explains it Attack is about, “One movement to the next, without pause. This is how we express this unstoppable and passionate love. “That love is something that the group says can transcend romance – incorporate the love of friendship, art, partnership and all the perspectives the group can streamline in their craft.

Referring to their separate performance fractions, Seungkwan notes: “Our unit songs were used to showcase our unique unit colors, but this time we wanted it to feel a little more fresh and diverse.” As for the different music, he continues: “About hip-hop and vocal singing [through multiple listens] you discover that every member is capable of something new. ”

In an effort to have fun with choreography but also maintain accessibility for listeners, Hoshi acknowledges: “We put energy into the choreography and we also wanted to create highlight choreography that everyone could enjoy.” To further show this message, he asks DK to stand and reveal the aforementioned choreography, where his members support him (or conversely laughing ear to ear), showing his willingness to entertain. Hoshi then says, “We do not yet have a name for this show, so we look forward to seeing what press members call it!”

Given that 11 of SVT’s 13 members are able to participate in this campaign due to members Jun and THE8 being visited by family out of the country, there was an obvious shift for the group that has successfully retained each original member . Seungkwan tells us: “I think we have always been 13 members, so without them we obviously feel an emptiness.” but adds optimistically: “They saw some of the footage from one [recent] shoot and they felt like we were working really hard! Mingyu also bells in to share: “Of course we want to see them and we keep in touch so we always cheer on each other!” Fortunately, the group were all present for the music video itself before their temporary absence, and after their choice to sign again with PLEDIS Entertainment months before, we can expect a future with exciting SVT content.

Hoshi revealed: “The re-signing was a turning point for us in our growth and also for us as a team. We will continue to try to show a new SEVENTEEN and return to your love with amazing performances and music. ”
