Several traffic fatalities in Bay Area on Thanksgiving morning

The early morning hours of Thanksgiving Day saw several road collisions around the Bay Area, resulting in at least two deaths.

A four-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 101 in Belmont led to the death of a woman, while a three-car accumulation in unincorporated Brentwood killed at least one person.

Authorities responded around 6 p.m. 3 a.m. to the northbound lane of Highway 101 near Ralston Avenue in Belmont, where they found a severely damaged 1991 Green Honda Accord blocking a lane, as well as three other vehicles that had crashed into it.

California Highway Patrol officers suspect Accord may have already been involved in a hit-and-run accident that resulted in the car idling in the left lane, with no lights on and turning the wrong way.

Some time later, a red 2019 Honda Clarity crashed into the Accord, sending it rotating across the freeway lanes to the right, where it collided with a 2019 Mercedes Benz.

Moments later, a 2013 Toyota Prius crashed into the red Honda, authorities said.

Responding officers then citizens perform CPR on the driver of the green agreement. The driver, a woman, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Authorities will not release her name until the next of kin have been notified.

Other motorists in the crash were treated for minor injuries, the CHP said.

The accident caused authorities to close the northbound lanes for several hours Thursday morning. The tracks were reopened around 11 p.m.

A separate accident with three cars was reported around noon. 5:51 at the Vasco and Walnut Boulevards in the unincorporated area of ​​Brentwood in Contra Costa County.

A Toyota Corolla was driving south and a Ford F-350 was heading north when one of the vehicles crossed into the opposite lane and the two collided head-on, the California Highway Patrol said.

The driver of the Toyota suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while another passenger in the car was slightly injured and was taken to hospital. A medical helicopter was at one point flown to the scene.
