Sheriff’s office in stand-up with armed person

SAN JOSE – The sheriff’s deputy in Santa Clara County has been in a stand-off with an armed person allegedly holding hostages inside a home in East San Jose, authorities said.

Deputies were called to the 3000-block East Hills Drive after 10 p.m. Monday to get a report of a disturbance involving a person with a gun, Deputy Russell Davis said. They learned afterwards that other people were inside the home and were not allowed to leave.

A sheriff’s tactical team and a crisis negotiating team were called to the scene, Davis said, adding that the agency is focused on de-escalating the situation toward a peaceful end.

There was not immediately a word about any damage. A powerful police presence remained at the scene Tuesday morning.
