Software Developer

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SOFTWARE DEVELOPER:

The Software Developer is a member of a team responsible for providing technical support to departments within Student Affairs. This position develops and maintains custom software, databases and integrations used for the management of operations in supported departments.

  •  Systems Development
    • Analyze, design, develop, implement, and maintain systems and procedures to address complex business needs
    • Integrate campus systems with vendor and internally developed systems
    • Respond to requests for data and reporting capabilities
    • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to identify needs and define system requirements
    • Follow development, documentation, and security standards and procedures
  • Systems Support
    • Provide Tier 2 support and troubleshooting for Student Affairs systems

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE SOFTWARE DEVELOPER:

Required: 

  • Two years of experience which includes systems development and/or programming with one or more of the following; C#, web to database application development, or web development.
    • College course work which included Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 60 semester hours or Associate’s Degree equals one (1) year, 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor’s Degree equals two (2) years.

Preferred

  • Experience with .NET development, preferably .Net Core
  • Experience with web to database application development and database design (SQL preferred)
  • Experience working in a collaborative coding environment
  • Experience with University of Illinois systems, including Banner, the Enterprise Data Warehouse, campus authentication, and campus credit card processing systems
  • Experience with web accessibility tools and compliance
  • Experience in healthcare settings

Senior Software Developer

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SENIOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPER:

The Senior Software Developer is a senior member of a team responsible for providing technical support to departments within Student Affairs. This position develops and maintains custom software, databases and integrations used for the management of operations in supported departments.

  • Systems Development and Support
    • Analyze, design, develop, implement, maintain, and integrate systems and procedures to address complex business needs
    • Provide Tier 2 support and troubleshooting for Student Affairs systems
    • Lead development projects, platform and tool migrations
    • Prepare detailed requirements, specifications, test plans, and other documentation required to guide technical development
    • Collaborate with team members to establish and monitor development standards and procedures
  • Systems Strategy
    • Make recommendations for system architecture, deployment, and quality assurance strategies
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders to review business procedures and make recommendations for improvement through automation
    • Work with other Technology Services units and campus to ensure systems meet security standards
    • Evaluate new and emerging technologies

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE SENIOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPER:

Required: 

  • Five years of experience designing and implementing web applications in .NET and database development and design using SQL
    • College course work which included Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 60 semester hours or Associate’s Degree equals one (1) year, 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor’s Degree equals two (2) years.
  • Experience with source control in a team setting

Preferred:

  • Experience with .NET using MVC or .NET Core
  • Experience with MS Team Foundation Server
  • Experience with data reporting and visualization (such as Tableau)
  • Experience developing integrations using tools such as SSIS and API integration
  • Experience with web accessibility tools and compliance
  • Experience developing test plans and working in quality assurance
  • Experience with University of Illinois systems, including Banner, the Enterprise Data Warehouse, campus authentication, and campus credit card processing systems

SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a full-time Civil Service Information Technology Technical Associate position appointed on a [12]-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after November 8, 2021.  Salary is commensurate with experience.
