Special Education Adjunct Faculty
The Division of Special Education and disAbility Research in the George Mason University College of Education and Human Development invites applications from highly qualified adjunct faculty to teach a diverse array of undergraduate and graduate courses in Special Education beginning Spring 2022. Our programs include Teaching Students with Disabilities who Access the Adapted Curriculum (i.e., low incidence/severe disabilities), the General Curriculum (i.e., high incidence, mild/moderate disabilities), and those with Blindness and Visual Impairments. In addition to these licensure programs, we also need instructional support in our non-licensure programs including American Sign Language (ASL), Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Assistive Technology (AT), and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

About the Department:
The College of Education and Human Development’s Special Education program is ranked 16th nationally by U.S. News & World Report. Additional recognition was given to the online graduate program, which U.S. News & World Report ranked 5th in the country. The mission of Mason’s Special Education program is to improve the lives, productivity, and education of persons with disabilities. The Division strives to reach this goal by producing passionate, world-class special educators who elevate the profession of special education.
Teaching graduate and undergraduate students is the primary responsibility of candidates seeking an adjunct instructional position in the Division of Special Education and disAbility Research. Quality instruction and responsive feedback to guide student growth are essential. While some courses are taught in fully virtual settings, many are taught face-to-face or hybrid. Participation in developmental opportunities is encouraged and use of resources provided by the academic unit is expected.
- Ph.D./Ed.D. in Special Education or related field for graduate level instruction (e.g., licensure programs, ABA, AT, and ASD);
- Master’s in Special Education or related field for undergraduate level instruction (e.g., licensure programs, AT, ASL);
- Content expertise that matches courses in division-based programs, e.g., explicit experience in methods-based instruction in reading, math, or adapted curriculum;
- Specialized credentials required for specific programs, e.g., BCBA, fluency in ASL; and
- In addition to a current curriculum vita, applicants must submit evidence of successful teaching from a recently taught course at the university level or a letter of recommendation reflecting potential for success teaching at the university level.
- University teaching experience;
- Experience with online teaching;
- Relevant practitioner-related experience;
- Knowledge of Blackboard or other learning management systems;
- Knowledge of accreditation data collection systems; and
- Native speaker of ASL.
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
