Brief Job Description
The Associate Director will be the primary coordinator of academic community-engaged learning/service-learning activities in the Civic and Community Engagement Office (CCE). This role will ensure high-quality academic collaborations to provide mutual benefit to the community and the institution that align with Buffalo State’s role as SUNY’s urban-engaged anchor campus, including collaborating with faculty and community partners, supporting students, establishing high quality academic partnerships, establishing policies and procedures, leading training, assessment and recognition of community-engaged learning, and implementing SUNY and institutional processes. The CCE is comprised of six units focused on campus-community partnerships, community-engaged learning being at the core of Buffalo State’s community engagement efforts. This position will also lead office communications strategies, support office management, and travel to community service sites. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement academic community-engaged learning activities 
  • Lead civic and community engagement efforts and programming including the Student Civic Leadership Board and the Celebration of Community Engagement
  • Manage effective office communication strategies including promotional materials, website content, e-newsletters, and social media
  • Support office leadership and management, including supervision of personnel and serving as second in charge to the Director.

Required Qualifications
Masters Degree. Demonstrated professional experience administering an academic community-engagement program, preferably in a college environment. Proven ability and skill set to work cooperatively and effectively with diverse faculty, staff and community members. Experience leading and managing personnel. Experience creating relevant communication and promotional materials. Excellent writing skills. Available to cover occasional programs and events held during nights, weekends, and federal holidays, as needed. Ability to travel to community agencies in Western New York.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience leading groups. Knowledge of the Western New York not-for-profit community. Significant experience as a volunteer or community activist. Demonstrated presentation skills and public speaking experience.
