As one of the driving forces behind Marvel’s most iconic characters, Stan Lee is now commemorated with a new plaque at Disneyland.
It is undeniable that without the vision and imagination of Stan Lee, Marvel Comics would have been a very different beast to the one we know. From today, visitors to the Avengers Campus at Disneyland will find a new plaque near the entrance that has been placed to commemorate his contributions to the world of superheroes. As co-creator on virtually every main character of the MCU to date, Lee’s influence and legacy will continue to evolve with the MCU and the continued stories of the characters he helped define and cement in pop culture worldwide.
The new plaque states: “We dedicate Avengers Campus to the incomparable Stan Lee. That person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt a real superhero. Thank you, Stan, for inspiring the hero within each of us. You have made us all True Believers. “
Of course, it’s hard to believe that anyone arriving at the Marvel-themed land within California’s Disneyland Resort will need to be told who Stan Lee was, and the plaque will clearly become a must-visit spot for selfies in the park. Having opened in June 2021, the Avengers Campus gives fans of the MCU the chance to interact with all of the heroes, and one or two villains, from the movies, and while currently only situated in California, there are plans for the Campus to be replicated at other Disney Parks around the world, including Disneyland Paris this Summer.
Stan Lee Was A More Integral Part Of The MCU Than Any Of The Heroes That Appear On-Screen
After appearing in dozens of cameo roles in the MCU movies, as well as other Marvel-related films and TV shows, Stan Lee’s contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe went much further than simply being the creator of the characters inhabiting that world. When he passed away in November 2018, just months before the arrival of Avengers: Endgame hit cinemas, his death sent a wave of grief through the Marvel community. Even though that was over three years ago, his absence is still being felt with every new addition to the Marvel canon.
While the MCU is clearly going to keep the legacy of Stan Lee alive on the big and small screen, places like the Avengers Campus go that step further to really bring the characters Lee spent decades writing about coming to life in a way that allows people to actually be a part of that world in a way that Lee would have loved and welcomed. Kevin Feige explained the importance of the Avengers Campus during previews before its opening, saying, “The notion of having films that I was a part of brought to life is amazing… Avengers Campus is absolutely the next progression of telling these stories, of experiencing what it’s like to ride alongside these characters. It could only be done in a Disney theme park attraction. “
