Stanley Tucci is probably one of the most beloved actors working in the industry today and he is one of the celebrity figures who always seems optimistic and positive. He is about the love of the craft and the good work that separates the line of the audience between the actor and the character. You would never really know if Stanley Tucci was fighting in the eyes of the public, but the actor has revealed that he endured a very private battle with cancer that was only surrounded by his immediate family.
Tucci revealed in a new interview with “Vera Magazine” that he had been diagnosed with a tumor at the base of his tongue that was too large to operate on. The alternative was a required high dose of radiation and chemo. This is something Tucci initially would not go through when he saw his first wife, Kate Spath-Tucci, die of breast cancer in 2009 at the age of 47. The actor said “I had promised I would never do such a thing, because my first wife died of cancer, and it was horrible to see her undergo these treatments for years.”
After Tucci made the decision to move on with treatments, the actor said his family was constantly by his side, including his wife Felicity Blunt, twins Isabel and Nicolo and Camila, from his first marriage, and 5-year-old Matteo and 2 – year old Emilia, whom he shares with Blunt. Their support was crucial as Tucci went through the worst, including having to be on a feeding tube for six months. The actor said “The children were fantastic, but it was difficult for them. I could barely make it to the twins high school graduation. ”
Fortunately, this story has a happy ending, as Tucci says the cancer is unlikely to return. That said, he reveals that its effects appear to be permanent. He goes on to say “Cancer makes you more scared and less scared at the same time. I feel much older than I did before I was sick. But you still want to move on and get things done. ”
Really happy that Stanley Tucci successfully got through his battle with cancer, and although some of its effects remain, the actor seems very positive about his future and it also shows the power of having love and support from your family. They gathered hard behind him and I’m sure he thinks he could not have done it without them.
