SAN RAMON (CBS SF) – A driver of a stolen motorhome who was driving too fast, tried to escape pursuing police cars, ran a red light on Bollinger Canyon Road in San Ramon and crashed into another vehicle in a frightening collision.
The accident on Wednesday night left the motorhome driver hospitalized with unknown injuries and the driver of the Prius sedan with minor injuries.

Robert Saunders was on his way back to his home in San Ramon from work when he saw the collision.
“I was driving home from work when I was going up a good class, there was a motorhome on the way down the hill which was probably driving around, I guess at 90 mph,” he said. “The camper was tearing down the hill. There were a whole host of police cars chasing him. He came down to a crowded intersection. “
Authorities said the driver ran a red light at the intersection of Bollinger Canyon Road and Alcosta Boulevard and crashed into the Prius.

“After driving into the intersection at a red light, the camper hit another vehicle,” San Ramon police tweeted. “Fortunately, the driver of that car walked away from the collision with minor injuries. The driver of the motorhome was transported to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek for treatment. “
San Ramon police tweeted that the collision took place at 6 p.m. 19.54 while officers chased a motorhome that was reported stolen from San Francisco.
Bollinger Canyon Road was finally reopened to traffic at 3 p.m. Thursday.

There were no immediate words about what charges the camper may be facing.
