Summary of ‘New Amsterdam’: Season 4, Episode 10 – Max / Helen [Spoiler]

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Tuesday’s In Amsterdam. Continue at your own risk!

They actually do, “Sharpwin” fans! In AmsterdamIn the autumn finale, Max and Helen flew to London – or at least boarded a taxi to the airport.

Earlier in Tuesday’s episode, a superbug sent the hospital into a state of emergency, prompting Max and Helen to postpone their impending departure and step in to help their colleagues. In the wake, Reynolds observed Max and asked how he would tell Helen not to go with her. Max said nothing in response when he looked at Helen. Even after the superbug disaster was resolved, Max still seemed divided, looking between the hospital and where Helen was waiting for him at a taxi.

The Amsterdam Recap“Charge me,” Helen said, and Max eventually walked over to her. He kissed her before slipping into the cab and directing the driver to JFK airport.

Helen’s two small words in the last scene are incredibly significant to the couple. “Usually, they can really just read each other’s thoughts,” explains showrunner David Schulner. “But sometimes, when they feared the other’s detention, they just said, ‘Charge me,’ and the other would confess whatever they were thinking. At that moment, she was worried that Max would not leave. with her, but she was wrong. “

It should be noted, however, that Max did not deny Reynolds’ assumption that he would not accompany Helen to London. In fact, he said nothing and left the door open so viewers could interpret Max’s intentions.

“It’s as beautiful as Ryan [Eggold] played it too, for when did he make the decision to leave? Was it at the very last moment with Sharpe by the taxi? Or did he always know he was going? “Schulner claims.” At that moment, he could have protected Reynolds, or he could have protected himself because he did not know. It’s so amazing, and only Ryan knows the answer to that. But it’s a beautiful moment. We never told him when he would make that decision or how. I love that it was ambiguous and I love that people get to ask themselves, ‘Would he always go? Or did he make a decision at the last minute? ‘”

The Amsterdam RecapSchulner is also aware that fans may question whether Max and Helen are actually going to London, as getting in a taxi is not exactly the same as getting on a plane. “We could not shoot a plane,” Schulner says with a laugh. “But I would bet that even if Max got on the plane, people would wonder, ‘Well, look, we’ve never seen that land.’ “I love that people still can not believe that Max is actually traveling. Hopefully it’s a testament to how we set it up and to Ryan’s performance.”

When the series returns on Tuesday, January 4, the couple will actually have moved to their new home in London, where “Helen is the medical director of the clinic as part of the NHS, and Max expects to fully practice medicine in the UK when he gets his license, “says Schulner.” Although the couple will face “big changes” and “big challenges” in this new chapter of their relationship, “they follow each other, they followed their joy, and it’s going to reward them,” he adds. Schulner. “Many of our characters are punished in the final for some of the more dubious choices they made, but Max and Sharpe follow their joy, and unfortunately this took them away from New Amsterdam.”

New Amsterdam spoilersElsewhere in the fall finale, Reynolds got a big surprise when Lyn told him that their situation is getting even more complicated because she’s pregnant! Further complicating matters is the fact that the paternity of the child is not so clear. “Floyd is interested, and Baptiste is interested in who is the father of this child,” reveals star Jocko Sims in the video interview above. “We get really caught up in it, and so much so that we kind of forget Lyn and what she’s going through. It’s an instructive moment for Floyd and Baptiste as we watch it come. So you will see more of Baptiste, even though he has just been fired. ”

Although Reynolds may seem like the type of man who has longed to start a family, “I would certainly say that was not what he wanted, but I think this will make Reynolds think,” Sims says. . “I read an episode this morning that had a very gripping moment with only Reynolds alone, and I can’t wait to record it. He’s thinking about fatherhood in this moment and the potential ups and downs that can come with it. “Whether this child is his or not, it changes him a little at the moment.”
