A surgeon who died of coronavirus after months of treating patients on the front lines of the pandemic has been honored.

Dr. Irfan Halim, 45, who specializes in laparoscopic surgery, joined the Covid intensive care unit at Swindon Hospital two months ago before contracting the virus. After nine weeks of fighting, he died last weekend at the hospital.

His wife, Saila, said her husband spent his last moments in her arms while whispering “prayer and love in his ears.” In a message posted online, she thanked her husband for “15 magical years” and the “wonderful memories that will last until her remaining days.”
