Suspected in Vanderhoof shooting identified

Chief Superintendent Warren Brown says the shots were fired at the department while well over a dozen employees were working.

“I was told that bullets smashed through exterior windows that hit walls, equipment and flew past workstations where police officers and office staff were sitting,” he says.

“Terrible stories in which our employees were drowned by gunfire could smell burning gunpowder and throw themselves on the ground to avoid being shot.”

He says it is believed that this was a targeted attack on the RCMP and he does not believe there is any threat to society.

In a statement from Vanderhoof’s mayor and city council, they say they are grateful that the province’s alert system worked and that residents were able to shelter in place while police tracked down the suspect.
