As her first granddaughter, Princess Charlotte is to inherit one of Princess Diana’s most famous and iconic heirlooms – her family tiara – which she wore on her wedding day to Prince Charles.
According to palace sources, since Charlotte is the eldest of Princess Diana’s grandchildren (Lilibet is the other), she gets first choice when it comes to which heirlooms she inherits. An insider close to Cambridges and Spencers, told Good to know that when she comes of age, the six-year-old will have “the selection of the palace jewels.”
The most coveted item, The Spencer Tiara, is currently being cared for by Diana’s younger brother, Earl Charles Spencer, who lives in the family’s Althorp House. Speaking of the heirloom, a royal source revealed Good to know that “William is close to his uncle and has asked if his mother’s namesake diadem can be given to Charlotte one day.” The insider continued: “William is quite aware that the earl has his own daughters, but the two have agreed that Diana’s iconic piece belongs to her first grandchild.”
Another insider also revealed that Charlotte is “dizzy with excitement” over inheriting the heirloom [via New Idea]. “Lotte [sic] knows all about her ‘grandmother Diana’ – Diana is one of her middle names after all. She has also seen pictures of her wearing a tiara, “the source added,” Charlotte is more than aware that she is a princess and she already has plastic tiaras and dresses to play dress-ups in. It’s very cute. “
The Spencer Tiara was designed by Garrard in the 1930s and was created using other jewelry owned by the Spencer family. The heart-shaped centerpiece of the tiara was a wedding gift to Diana’s grandmother from Lady Sarah Isabella Spencer, an aunt to the 7th Earl of Spencer.
According to tradition, royal brides usually borrow a headpiece or tiara from the queen for their wedding day. But for her wedding to the Queen’s eldest son, the Prince of Wales, Diana decided to carry one of her own family heirlooms – the Spencer Tiara. The item is a prize pool for the Spencer family, and both Diana’s sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, carried the heirloom at their own weddings.
In addition to the coveted Spencer Tiara, Princess Charlotte is expected to inherit some of the Queen’s priceless crown jewels. New idea‘s Royal Insider even predicted that the six-year-old will receive the Vladimir Tiara, which contains emeralds from the Queen’s grandmother, Queen Mary, which is worth around £ 10 million.
