Demi Lovato quietly completed yet another rehabilitation program last year.
A source tells PEOPLE that the 29-year-old Grammy Award nominee has since returned from the treatment site and has maintained their sobriety and mental health after their nearly fatal overdose in 2018.
“Demi are committed to their well-being and throughout their lives they plan to make regular check-ins to make sure they put themselves first,” the insider says.
A representative of Lovato did not comment at PEOPLE’s request.

They went to rehab for the first time in late 2010 before living in a sober residence in 2012. The Disney Channel alum entered another hospitalized program after their 2018 overdose.

Lovato said last year in their YouTube documentary series Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil that they still drank and smoked marijuana in moderate amounts after their overdose, which they admitted “is not for everyone”. But last month, they announced that they have since dropped the “California sober” lifestyle.
“I no longer support my ‘California sober’ ways,” Lovato wrote on their Instagram Story. “Sober sober is the only way to be.”

“Everything had to happen so I could learn the lessons I learned,” Lovato said. “It was a painful journey, and I look back, and sometimes I get upset when I think of the pain I had to endure to overcome what I have, but I do not regret anything.”
