Marvel Studios is preparing for the quite expanded run in theaters and at Disney +, which includes more than a handful of long-awaited sequels this year and next. Included in this group are Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and thunder, which will be the first time any MCU solo hero has starred in four solo films with Chris Hemsworth at the helm.
With a star-studded cast of MCU’s most prominent galactic heroes, this film looks set to continue the story of both 2017s Thor: Ragnarok and the last two Avengers excursions that closed Infinity Saga.
The Thunder of God is set to team up with Guardians of the Galaxy, Korg, Valkyrie and more after losing half of its people to Thanos at the opening moment of Avengers: Infinity War. One of the last of Thanos’ injured was Idris Elbas Heimdall, who rescued Bruce Banner / Hulken before facing his untimely death in front of his longtime friend.
However, the latest report on the project may signal that this was not the official end of the Asgardian gatekeeper.
IDRIS ELBA COACHES A KOMBACK?
Idris Elba spoke with Brandon Davis from Cartoon about his experience with Warner Bros. ‘ The suicide group. During this discussion, he hinted at a potential comeback as Heimdall in Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and thunder.
After Davis, it made Heimdall “apparently” perished during Avengers: Infinity War while discussing Elba’s future with cartoons, the actor made sure to point out that the word “apparently” to be noted in conversation about the fate of the Asgardian gatekeeper:
“I think I’m excited about the possibilities in the DC world. And I think the word I chose to take note of is the word ‘apparently.'”
A WONDERFUL REFUND?
Heimdall returns Thor: Love and thunder would certainly create a shocking revelation, especially considering he met his death directly in front of Thor. However, there may be a way to work it out on everything that has been told through the last few films of God of Thunder.
While Thor: Ragnarok largely concerned with the destruction of Asgard and many of its people, another part of this concept was about the idea of rebirth after the disaster. While Valkyrie began rebuilding Asgard on Earth during Avengers: Endgame, there is still a chance that those like Heimdall who were killed could also return.
A rumor also came out over a year ago that the film cast for a young black character named Zappa, who many believed was coming into play as a young version of Heimdall. Whether this is true is still unknown, but it could open the door for Idris Elba’s gatekeeper if the rebirth concept is fully implemented.
Since the filming just ended a few weeks ago, it will probably still be a while until Elba’s return is confirmed, especially with so many other stars in play for Love and Thunder. Nevertheless, the possibility of Elba coming back for her sixth MCU film will add yet another exciting dynamic to this wild story.
Thor: Love and thunder debuts in theaters on May 6, 2022.
