Tom Holland would love to see his version of Spider-Man join forces with Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova from Black Widow and Hawkeye.
From Captain America: Civil War thaw Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland’s version of Peter Parker has appeared alongside a number of heroes and villains from both the Marvel and Sony franchises. However, Holland believes a Spider-Man team up with Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova should be in the cards.
Spider-Man: No Way Home concluded with Holland’s Peter Parker being forgotten by everyone in the MCU thanks to a spell by Doctor Strange, which was their only means of preventing the arrival of several characters from across the multiverse. However, Spider-Man is still very much a famous figure, meaning he could still team up with the Avengers down the line.
In a recent BBC Radio 2 interview, Holland revealed that he would love to team up with Black Widow star Pugh in a future film. Holland gave his reasoning for naming Pugh his top choice in the interview. Although the idea has not been suggested to the big bosses at Marvel Studios yet, he said that he and Pugh have talked about it on several occasions, and they would love to make it happen one day. Holland spoke highly of Pugh, saying that she was amazing in Black Widow and in all the movies she’s done. He also said that he thinks a Spider-Man spirit Black Widow film would be a fun little twist that fans would not expect.
Pugh was first introduced into the MCU as Yelena Belova, a close comrade of Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff, in the Black Widow solo film. Since then, she has appeared in Disney Plus’ Hawkeye series, where she attempts to kill Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton because she thought he was responsible for Natasha’s death. Their confrontation ends with Yelena accepting that Romanoff chose to sacrifice herself to save the universe, but what’s next for Belova remains unclear.
Given that the MCU is currently hyper-focused on its multiverse, there is a wide-open window for superhero team-ups and cameos at the moment, so fans can not rule out a Holland and Pugh collaboration just yet. Both of their characters are technically a part of the next generation of Avengers, so the likelihood that they will get to work together in the near future is presumably high.
Also, in the actual comic book lore itself, Spider-Man and Yelena’s Black Widow have appeared together before, often teaming up against another major character that has just been brought into the Marvel fold via Hawkeye: Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin. Will Marvel Studios adapt one of their comic book adventures for the big screen? Only time will tell.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters everywhere.
