Tony Awards in 2021 – Oh no, they did not! – LiveJournal

Calling all ONTD theater lovers (all 15 of us)! It’s Tony night, so let’s discuss the winners, losers and fashion.

If this picture does not summarize the compilation of the Tony Awards, I do not know what does. Darlene Love, Matthew Morrison, Marissa Janet Winokur, Chester Gregory and Kerry Butler perform at the Tony Awards.

For those of you who are casual theater fans, the only Broadway shows eligible for Tony nominations this year had to open on February 19 or sooner. Since Broadway closed on March 12, there have been only four musicals eligible for Tony Awards this year: The Lightning Thief, Jagged Little Pill, Tina: The Tina Turner Musical and Moulin Rouge! (exclamation point is part of the title, I’m not overly enthusiastic). That’s why you see the same three shows nominated in each musical category (The Lightning Thief got zero nominations) and why there are not five nominees in each category.

Aaron Tveit was the only nominee in the lead role in a musical category because no one else was considered worthy. He still needed 60% of the vote to officially win.
