UC San Diego students who died in the fall from Tioga Hall were identified

SAN DIEGO – The UC San Diego student who died in a fall from a residence this week had attended an eighth-floor party, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

The teenager, identified as 18-year-old Aaron Fan, fell Friday from a bathroom window in the school’s dormitory building in Tioga Hall. A campus officer had just arrived to investigate the gathering.

According to the medical examination released Saturday, Fan had “been to a party in a room on the 8th floor of the dorm area.”

“A campus officer came past the room to report a noise complaint, and the deceased entered the bathroom. Shortly afterwards, witnesses of the deceased fall out of the bathroom window down to the ground below and immediately called 911, ”the report continues.

Paramedics drove the teenager to the hospital with multiple injuries. Doctors tried to save the young man’s life, but he was pronounced dead early Saturday morning, officials said.

The 18-year-old had been a student at the university’s John Muir College, the school said earlier this week. The fall came during UCSD’s homecoming weekend.

“It is with a heavy heart that UC San Diego shares that we lost a member of the Muir College community overnight,” school spokeswoman Laura Margoni said in a statement. “As we work to better understand the circumstances, we ask that we respect the privacy of our student’s family.”
