US law firm Mayer Brown stops work for Hong Kong University amid controversy over removal of memorial from Tiananmen

This move comes amid a controversy over the statue, which has stood at Hong Kong’s oldest university for 24 years. The work of art, known as the “Pillar of Shame” has faced removal as officials maintain any recognition in Hong Kong of the massacre in Beijing in 1989, just as they have done on the Chinese mainland.
