DENVER (KDVR) – Aurora-violent crime is rising higher than in other major Colorado cities, and more of these crimes are gun-related than at any time in the past decade.
Aurora has experienced four high-profile shootings in the last two weeks with a common thread – teenagers with firearms.
According to data from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, 49% of the aggravated assaults committed in Aurora this year have been gun-related.
That is at least a ten-year record. The percentage of aggravated assaults involving a firearm in Aurora has more than doubled since 2015, when only 23% did so.
The actual aggravated assault, which is the largest single part of Aurora’s violent crimes, is also on the rise. They have almost doubled since 2017, which has increased the city’s total violent crime along with them.
