Would you look at this? The calendar gods were really friendly. Not only did we have an extra special Xmas Edition of WAYP last week, but now we’ve also had a new year. With the arrival of 2022 comes optimism, ambition and of course lots of games. Rather get cleaned up on the backlog, folks – February looks insane.

I work diligently through my lag, with games like Life Is Strange: True Colors and Alan Wake Remastered on the agenda. Of course, I also find some time for Fortnite and the Rocket League.

Robert Ramsey, Deputy Editor

I continue my cozy replay of Dragon Quest XI S between battles with the frankly amazing Vermintide II. I know I’m late for the (New Year) party, but the latter is easily one of the most entertaining and satisfying collaborative games I’ve ever played.

Happy New Year! Sorry, 2022 – I want to party like it was 1997. I’m currently playing Castlevania Requiem (Night Symphony) as it’s a gap in my knowledge that I’ve wanted to fill for years. I might also play a little Rocket League here and there; the mobile game, Sideswipe, has successfully pulled me back to Psyonix’s ingenious football-by-car simulator.

After the hectic Christmas week, I’m aiming for a really cool New Year, and it’s going to be nice to jump back to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and pretend I’m having a relaxing, if not a little murderous, beach vacation. I’m still pretty early in the story, but my newfound love of Greek mythology means I really love everything I’ve played so far, and the setting is just incredible. I can not wait to play more!

Jamie O’Neill, reviewer

2022 is hopefully the year when the potential of PS5 becomes the reality of technically impressive new game releases, so I start the new year by checking out The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience to toast to the fireworks of the future in advance.

Ollie Reynolds, reviewer

Happy New Year, folks! This have to be better, right? Well, I start 2022 with something more Death Stranding; if I can finish it on the weekend, it will dry the board clean the rest of the year. The improvements to the PS5 version have certainly kept me hooked, so we’ll see.
