Amanda Conner has an incredibly ardent fanbase. If you’ve ever been near her table at a comic convention, you’ll likely know it from the copious length of the line of those hoping to meet Conner and perhaps get something signed by the prolific artist. Amanda Conner has had popular runs on many iconic titles, with her artwork being one of the main driving forces behind the reinvention of Power Girl as well as DC Comics’ incredibly popular Harley Quinn series. Conner has done quite a lot of work with her collaborator and husband Jimmy Palmiotti as well, including some of those iconic DC Comics titles as well as creator-owned series such as The Pro. A personal favorite of mine is the Power Girl spinoff Terrawhich saw Amanda Conner and the rest of the Power Girl team, including co-writer Justin Gray, take the eponymous Terra. She had become a fan-favorite in Power Girl and gave her a solo title with the same fun-loving vibe as their main series. Now, let’s take a glimpse into Conner’s history with this special Heritage Auction listing that ticks back the clock to 1993.
Barbie shows her love of painting on this cover featuring the pop culture icon. Ink over graphite on Marvel cover stock Bristol board with an image area of 9.75 “x 15”. Slight toning, stat logo, header, and text paste-ups, tape in the UPC box and on the back top edge, discolored staple holes along the top edge, residue spot stain at the top, whiteout touch-ups, with light rippling and handling wear. Signed by the art team in the lower image area and in Very Good condition.
Fans of both Barbie and Amanda Conner, both of which are legion, can head over to Heritage Auctions to place bids for this unique Marvel original art. Conner’s art tends to bring in collectors in major ways, and this is such a fun example of her early work with Marvel outside of the superheroes that made her a major force in the industry. Best of luck to all of those bidding in hopes to bring home this Barbie original cover artwork.
